IEP Progress Monitoring in North Dakota

How often should you receive IEP progress reports in North Dakota?

North Dakota requires that each IEP include a description of how the student's progress toward annual goals will be measured and when periodic reports on progress toward goals will be provided (NDAC 67-23-01-02; 34 CFR 300.320(a)(3)). Parents must be informed of progress toward annual goals at least as frequently as report cards are provided to parents of nondisabled students. The IEP team must review the IEP at least annually and revise it when a student is not making expected progress toward annual goals. North Dakota follows the federal standard and does not require benchmarks or short-term objectives for all students; however, when benchmarks or short-term objectives are included for alternate assessment students, they provide additional checkpoints for progress monitoring. NDDPI provides guidance on evidence-based progress monitoring practices, including curriculum-based measurement (CBM) and other data-collection methods. When a student fails to make adequate progress, the IEP team should convene as needed — parents may request an IEP meeting at any time to discuss progress concerns.
