IEP Transition Services in Wyoming

When does IEP transition planning start in Wyoming?

Wyoming IEPs must include a coordinated set of transition services beginning not later than the first IEP to be in effect when the student turns 16 (consistent with 34 CFR 300.320(b)), or younger if determined appropriate by the IEP team. Transition services must be based on individual assessment of the student's strengths, preferences, and interests. The transition plan must include measurable postsecondary goals related to training/education, employment, and (when appropriate) independent living skills, and the transition services needed to reach those goals (WY Rules Ch. 7 § 8; 34 CFR 300.43). Wyoming's WDE emphasizes person-centered planning approaches in transition. Interagency coordination with Wyoming Vocational Rehabilitation, Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, and other adult agencies is expected. Student participation in IEP meetings when transition is discussed is required; if the student cannot attend, the district must document how the student's preferences were obtained.
