IEP Present Levels (PLAAFP) in Nevada

What should present levels include in a Nevada IEP?

Nevada requires that each IEP include a statement of the student's present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP), consistent with NAC 388.284 and federal law. The PLAAFP must describe how the disability affects the student's involvement and progress in the general curriculum, or for preschool students, how the disability affects participation in appropriate activities. Present levels must be grounded in evaluation data gathered through a variety of assessments using multiple methods. Under NAC 388.337 and 388.340, evaluations must be comprehensive and non-discriminatory, and evaluation reports must document present performance levels and educational needs. For students with specific learning disabilities, classroom-based assessment data must be used, and at least one team member must conduct an observation of the student's academic performance in the regular classroom either before or after referral (NAC 388.420). Parent input on the student's strengths, concerns, and prior educational experiences must be considered during IEP development (NAC 388.284). The assessment of the student's current performance in their educational setting is governed by NAC 388.380.

The current performance of the pupil in the educational setting must be assessed and documented as a foundation for present levels (NAC 388.380).

Parent input on concerns and information about the child must be considered and addressed during IEP development (NAC 388.284).
